Barkhamsted Reservoir

the view south from Saville DamBarkhamsted Reservoir supplies water to Hartford from the surprisingly isolated hills of north-central Connecticut west of Granby and I-91.

It was built around the same time as the Winsor Dam/Quabbin Reservoir, and it looks it. Forests and parks surround the Saville Dam and the views are lovely, especially during foliage season.

Barkhamsted Reservoir

The reservoir, named for the nearly nonexistent village in which the Saville Dam is located, is about 8 miles long through very rugged country, and it's not on the way to anywhere, but it's a worthy destination in itself for a foliage drive.
