I think Belfast pretty well marks the end of Midcoast Maine and the start of Downeast Maine. For us, Belfast is about as far as I am willing to drive in a normal day if I have to drive home again, and if we are going to dawdle and explore along the way.

Belfast has a fine food coop and is home to the excellent Marshall Wharf Brewery and a few more foodie shops.
