The lower reaches of the mighty Connecticut River are scenic and not as developed as you might think. There are many pleasant drives in the area below Haddam, and plenty of farms and markets on both sides of the river.

Sankow's Beaver Brook Farm and Cato Corner Farm are two artisanal cheesemakers in the area.  

Chester and Old Lyme are two of our favorite Connecticut towns, and the Gillette Castle is a must-see.
