Mohawk Trail

The Deerfield River near ShelburneThe Mohawk Trail is the 40-mile stretch of Route 2 that winds through the Berkshires between Greenfield at I-91 and Williamstown at Route 7.  It is very picturesque, but it's not a fast road. It is certainly nothing like the (same) Route 2 that I frequently drive much closer to Boston, and if you're in no hurry it's a fine ride.

Mohawk Trail KischMapquest or Google Maps will accurately inform you that I-90, while much longer, is a faster way to get from Point A to Point B in these parts, but it's not that much faster, and it certainly lacks the views, and the old-fashioned Happy-Motoring kitsch that lingers on along this road-less-travelled.

the view of North Adams and ClarksburgThe Mohawk Trail is also one of the only ways to get to Florida without leaving Massachusetts. And not far past Florida, you approach the famous hairpin turn overlooking Clarksburg and North Adams before reaching the end of the road at Williamsburg.
