Montpelier is the capital of the Green Mountain State, although it is much smaller than Burlington. It is just off Rte 89 near Barre just about in the middle of the state.

Montpelier boasts a number of fine restaurants, bakeries, and other goodies, but my favorite thing about the city is the wonderful Hunger Mountain Coop. It's worth a drive to Vermont just to visit that market, because they have such a great selection of hard-to-find cheeses, beers, and other local fare in addition to a stellar array of produce, dairy, and meats.
