Rockland, Maine, is a real gem of mid-coast Maine. It has a busy, pretty, working harbor with well-maintained parks and walking paths all along the waterfront. It is convenient to Camden and Rockport along the coast, and Union (home of the famous Union Fair) is the next town inland. We spend many Saturdays visiting attractions in the Rockland area.
Downtown is a bustling 10-block strip of Route 1 immediately after a 90-degree turn. There are numerous restaurants, a coffee roaster, an excellent local theater, a good kitchen store, and the Farnsworth Museum of Art, a fine collection that includes many Wyeths.
Rockland is a great base of operations for exploring mid-coast Maine. There are many excellent markets and farms of interest to foodies within an easy drive of Rockland.
