One of our favorite drives every year is an expedition beyond the Hudson Valley and Albany along Route 20 south of the NY Thruway and north of I-88 to Binghamton. This passes through the Leatherstocking district where Cooperstown is, and through much beautiful Upstate NY Farm Country en route from Albany to Syracuse and the Finger Lakes.

All along the way you get broader  vistas than we usually see in New England. The hills roll and the fields are broad, the road is straight and the towns are very small. Best of all, there is ample country for exploring on both sides of the road for mile after mile. Route 20 in upstate NY is the same road as Route 20 in Worcester and Marlboro, but it's worlds away for adventuring!
