Hog-In-Berry snack sausage

Hog-in-Berry Sausage

Name: Dried Maine "Hog In Berry" Stick

Found at: the Common Ground Fair, Unity ME

Producer: Smith's Log Smokehouse, Monroe, ME

This peculiar product is a smoked beef and pork sausage made with sweet little wild Maine blueberries. It's certainly a tasty product, although I think I might like it better without the beef.

The sausage is well-made, with the filling properly ground and the casings properly filled. It looks like it would pack along well, and it might be a good companion for a trek in Acadia National Park.

We got these at the Common Ground Fair in Unity, ME, over four hours from my home in Plymouth. The farmer who sold them may have driven further than I did - the farm and the smokehouse are located in Monroe, ME, away downeast beyond Machias.

I tried this with Lefty's Irish-Style Stout and a white German Beer Radish. the beer and the radish played well together, and the beer and the sausage played well together, but the sausage and the radish did not get along at all. Well, we learn these things so you don't have to!
