Newport, Vermont is a pretty town way up on Lake Memphremagog and the Canadian border at the end of Route 5. It is an important market center for the Northeast Kingdom, but it is not a large town.

We once made a very fun circumnavigation of the lake, into Canada and back - but got into a very not-fun delay at Customs by some provincial yahoo who thought we must be up to no good for such a hare-brained trip. He really didn't believe that we'd be driving home to Plymouth, MA afterward!
