Port Clyde, ME is one of the three places from which you can sail to Monhegan Island. It is a picturesque fishing village maybe half an hour south of Route 1 from Warren, between Waldoboro and Rockland. The drive down is pretty, so it makes a nice diversion from long hours on the big road.
There is also a picturesque little lighthouse not far from the village. It's on a point just northeast of town, at the end of a road and through two forbidding stone posts. There is ample parking and a small museum, too.
