Western Maine

Farm country below the Mahoosuc RangeWestern Maine is largely farm country and mountains, long settled and still sparsely settled. Fryeburg (pictured here) at the foot of the Mahoosuc Range, is home to the annual Fryeburg Fair at the height of foliage season in early October.

This is also suprisingly excellent grounds for craft beerhounds. Ebenezer's Pub is world-renowned, and the Good Beer Store provides an astonishing array of craft ales to take home with you.

If you make a foliage trip here, be sure to go north from Fryeburg up the excellent Rte 113 and through Evans Notch (closed in winter).
