Description
This homey, slightly sweet, full-flavored bread was a staple on every breakfast table when we toured all parts of Ireland in 2016.
Ingredients
| 4 | c | King Arthur Irish-style Flour | | 3 | T | Sugar | | 1 | t | Salt | | 1 | t | Baking Soda | | 2 | t | Baking Powder | | 1 1⁄2 | c | Buttermilk | | 2 | T | Butter (melted) |
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400. Add a baking stone if you want to use one.
- In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients, then add buttermilk and butter.
- Knead briefly, until the dough holds together.
- Place on a greased baking sheet or on the baking stone dusted with flour. Slash a deep cross in the top and put in to bake.
- Bake about 40 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when thumped on the bottom.
- Let cool before serving.
